The longere at le Moulin de la Forge

Le Moulin de la Forge is a characteristic, traditional house of the area - a longere.

Our longere will soon be part of our bed and breakfast business or let as holiday rentals for couples.

It has rooms on the ground floor with a hayloft above. The latter is entered via external loft doors, originally via an ever-present outside ladder [soon internal staircases will lead to the upper guest rooms].

Situated a longside the small millstream and sheltered by a curtain of willows, it is slowly being restored in order to accomodate kitchen-living rooms, lounge areas and a reading room, as well as several bedrooms in the old loft space.

According to the needs of everyday life or farming activity, rooms and other buidings were added [usually called dependances]. The site has a very large barn [grange] once owned by the local monastery.

The old milking parlour [laiterie] attached to the barn [grange] is being converted to an up-to-date house for our own use.

The barn itself will not be greatly altered. The addition of a concrete floor [rather than the original clay one] is now completed. The next stages will be to restore the stable area and turn it into a usable space [most probably toilet, shower and washing space and a food preparation and storage area. The former to allow us to clean down after work and NOT transport to much muck into the house itself!]

We try to conserve our local environment, and will always ensure that our guests have the necessary information and equipment to see thenatural history, the countryside and the villages & towns of our local area.
